Indeed, the world’s leading job site and hiring platform, has appointed Jim Giles as Chief Technology Officer, effective immediately. In this role, Giles will oversee the company’s technical strategy, guide the evolution of its global engineering teams, and drive advancements in AI engineering to enhance how people find jobs and employers hire—with greater speed, confidence, and trust. He emphasizes using technology, particularly AI, as a force for human progress while keeping the focus on the individuals it serves.

Giles joins Indeed from Google, where he served as Vice President of Engineering and led teams responsible for widely used productivity tools including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive—products that reach more than a billion users globally. During his tenure, he played a key role in shifting Google Workspace toward an AI-first strategy and established the Workspace AI platform to support AI development and seamless cross-product experiences.
Prior to his most recent position, Giles held various senior engineering leadership roles at Google and earlier served as a Distinguished Engineer at IBM. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
