Fiserv and Mastercard are deepening their collaboration to address the emerging frontier of agentic commerce, aiming to provide merchants with a secure and scalable foundation for accepting payments initiated by AI agents.
Fiserv and Mastercard are partnering to advance trusted agentic commerce for merchants.
Fiserv will be an early major processor to leverage Mastercard's Agent Pay Acceptance Framework at scale.
The partnership integrates Mastercard's Secure Card on File tokenization solution for secure, seamless transactions.
The framework is designed to enable AI agents to transact securely with tokenization, authentication, and fraud prevention.
The goal is to give merchants tools to maintain customer relationships and unlock new revenue streams in the AI commerce era.
This builds on previous joint efforts around stablecoin adoption and small business support programs.
As autonomous AI agents become more capable of making purchases on behalf of consumers, the payments industry requires new standards for security and interoperability. This partnership positions Fiserv to integrate Mastercard's Agent Pay Acceptance Framework, which is designed to establish guardrails for this new transaction type. The framework incorporates essential security elements like network tokenization, strong authentication, and governance protocols to help mitigate fraud and build trust.
A core technical component is Fiserv's integration as a network token requestor using Mastercard's Secure Card on File solution. This leverages tokenization—replacing sensitive card data with unique digital tokens—to secure transactions across the payment ecosystem, a critical requirement for managing the new data flows created by AI agents.
The collaboration is framed as enabling merchant confidence. By adopting these established standards and frameworks, the companies aim to simplify the technical complexity for merchants, allowing them to participate in agentic commerce without compromising security or control over their customer relationships.
Sanjay Saraf of Fiserv highlighted the collaborative foundation. “Fiserv and Mastercard are working together to establish the foundation for secure, intelligent, and interoperable agentic commerce experiences,” said Saraf, SVP and Global Chief Product Officer at Fiserv. “Together, we are enabling merchants of all sizes to confidently participate in this new era of commerce.”
Chiro Aikat of Mastercard emphasized the transformative potential balanced with necessity for trust. “Agentic commerce is transforming payments by creating smarter, more intuitive experiences,” said Aikat, Co-President, U.S. at Mastercard. "By working with Fiserv, we’re making it easier for merchants to embrace these innovations in ways that add trust, speed and confidence.”
This initiative represents a continuation of the broader strategic partnership between the two financial technology giants, following previous collaborations on initiatives like stablecoin adoption and small business tools.
