The digital credit landscape in Vietnam is poised for a significant shift with the announcement of the country's first AI-powered PayLater card. Fintech Circle Asia Technologies is collaborating with core banking platform Pismo and global payments network Visa to launch the product in early 2026. This initiative aims to tackle Vietnam's historically low credit card penetration by using AI for instant underwriting, offering a virtual credit card with flexible installments without requiring a traditional bank account, thereby aiming to set new benchmarks for accessibility and user experience.

  • Circle Asia Technologies is partnering with Pismo and Visa to launch Vietnam's first AI-powered PayLater card.

  • The card is scheduled for a phased rollout in early 2026.

  • It aims to address low credit card penetration in Vietnam by offering instant, AI-driven underwriting in under 5 minutes.

  • The product will provide a virtual credit card with flexible installment features, bypassing the need for a traditional bank account.

  • The collaboration leverages Pismo's API-driven core banking platform and Visa's global payments network.

  • A strategic partnership with a major Vietnamese commercial bank will ensure compliance and market scale.

Addressing a Gap in Credit Access

Vietnam's financial market is characterized by a significant gap in formal credit access for a large portion of the population. This collaboration directly targets that gap by designing a product that removes traditional barriers: lengthy approval processes, stringent account requirements, and complex paperwork. By using AI to assess risk and provide near-instant underwriting, Circle aims to democratize access to digital credit.

The Role of AI and Strategic Technology Partnerships

The card's core innovation is its AI-powered engine, which is designed to evaluate customer risk and deliver a virtual credit line within minutes. This speed and efficiency are enabled by the underlying technology stack: Pismo's cloud-native, API-driven platform provides the agile core processing and card issuance capabilities, while Visa's global network ensures the card is widely accepted both domestically and internationally. Arnab Ghosh, Founder & CEO at Circle Asia Technologies, stated, “Circle is fundamentally redesigning the financial experience for consumers in Vietnam. We believe that by starting with a truly modern credit product, we can build a deeper, more valuable relationship with our customers than traditional banks or debit-focused neobanks ever could.”

A Collaborative Model for Compliance and Scale

Recognizing the regulatory and scaling challenges, Circle is also partnering with one of Vietnam's largest commercial banks. This partnership is critical for navigating local financial regulations, ensuring robust compliance, and leveraging existing trust and distribution networks to achieve rapid market adoption. This three-way model between a fintech, a core tech provider, and an established bank illustrates a modern blueprint for launching disruptive financial products in regulated markets.

Strategic Vision from Technology Partners

Executives from both Pismo and Visa highlighted the collaboration's potential to drive inclusion and modernization. Varun Dudeja of Pismo noted the union “enables new, more transparent, and more accessible consumer experiences.” Julie Hsiao of Visa emphasized that bringing “advanced AI technology and Visa’s trusted global network” together can set new standards for security and convenience in Vietnam's financial services sector.

This announcement represents a forward-looking model for financial inclusion, combining cutting-edge AI underwriting with established payments infrastructure and local banking partnerships. If successful, it could not only expand credit access in Vietnam but also serve as a template for similar deployments in other emerging markets with underserved populations.
