The rapid adoption of AI agents in the enterprise has created a critical need for secure and governed data access. To address this, Redpanda has announced the acquisition of distributed SQL engine Oxla and the launch of its Agentic Data Plane, a new suite designed to safely connect and manage AI agents across the digital workforce.
Redpanda has acquired Oxla, a distributed SQL query engine and database.
The company has launched the Agentic Data Plane (ADP), a new suite for governing AI agent data access.
ADP provides a reliable data layer with complete traceability, observability, and governance for AI agents.
Key capabilities include unified connectivity, full observability, federated SQL querying, and Agentic Access Control (AAC).
The solution is built to bridge private and public cloud environments, including air-gapped deployments.
The first phase is available now on Redpanda Cloud, with more features rolling out through 2026.
Redpanda's Agentic Data Plane is built to provide a reliable data access layer for building AI agents with the traceability and governance required by enterprise environments. The ADP integrates the company's existing streaming platform and data connectivity suite with the newly acquired Oxla SQL engine, creating a unified stack for real-time data.
Alex Gallego, CEO and founder of Redpanda, explained the necessity of this new category. “AI agents have made initial inroads to the private networks of the modern enterprise. However, organizations today don’t have an easy, integrated way to observe, control, and govern data access for agents. The Agentic Data Plane provides the very necessary MCP aware connectivity, access control, and governance for enterprise AI. And with the acquisition of Oxla, we can now give agents a standard SQL endpoint for agents to query data in motion or at rest.”
This move extends Redpanda's capabilities beyond streaming to encompass the full breadth of data connectivity for AI agents, supporting standards like MCP, SQL, and Iceberg across cloud, BYOC, and on-premise deployment models.
The announcement has garnered support from industry partners. Eiso Kant, co-CEO and co-founder of Poolside, stated, “At Poolside, we’re building toward a future where enterprises can deploy agents at scale—with real-time, permissioned access to streaming data from anywhere, securely within their own firewall. Redpanda’s Agentic Data Plane helps make that possible.”
The key capabilities of the Agentic Data Plane are designed to mitigate risk while unlocking data for AI. They include Unified Connectivity to bridge environments, Full Observability to log every agent interaction, Federated Querying via the Oxla SQL engine for real-time data joins, and Agentic Access Control (AAC) for fine-grained, short-lived security tokens.
The first phase of the Agentic Data Plane is available now through Redpanda Cloud and BYOC deployments. Governance and transformation capabilities are scheduled to follow in early 2026, with full federated SQL querying entering beta later in the year.
This launch positions Redpanda at the forefront of a new category of AI infrastructure, directly addressing the security and governance challenges that have hindered the widespread production deployment of AI agents. By combining streaming data, SQL querying, and robust governance, the Agentic Data Plane provides a foundational layer for the safe and scalable implementation of enterprise AI.
Redpanda is pioneering the agentic data plane - a new category in AI infrastructure that makes it simple and secure to connect AI agents with enterprise data and systems. Built on a multi-modal data streaming engine, Redpanda empowers agentic applications that reason and act in real-time with speed, autonomy, and precision. Global leaders including Activision, NYSE, Cisco, Moody's, Texas Instruments, Vodafone and 2 of the top 5 banks in the U.S. rely on Redpanda to process hundreds of terabytes of data a day. Backed by premier venture investors Lightspeed, GV and Haystack VC, Redpanda is a diverse, people-first organization with teams distributed around the globe.
