Proofpoint has acquired Acuvity, a pioneer in AI enterprise security and governance, to extend its platform with AI-native visibility, runtime protection, and controls across the agentic workspace—where humans and AI agents collaborate—making Proofpoint the first cybersecurity provider to comprehensively secure people, data, and AI in unified workflows.

  • Proofpoint acquires Acuvity to strengthen AI-native security, governance, and runtime protection for agentic AI workflows.
  • The acquisition addresses emerging risks from generative AI, including shadow AI, data exposure, IP loss, regulatory violations, prompt injection, and model manipulation.
  • Acuvity provides visibility and enforcement across endpoints, browsers, external AI services, MCP servers, and local tools like OpenClaw and Ollama.
  • Combined platform unifies protection across collaboration security (people), data security/governance, and AI security (models/applications).
  • Proofpoint becomes the first vendor to secure the full agentic workspace end-to-end, enabling confident AI adoption without compromising trust or compliance.
  • Acuvity’s capabilities enhance Proofpoint’s portfolio for real-time governance of human intent, agentic behavior, and AI interactions with data.

Proofpoint, Inc., a leading cybersecurity and compliance company, announced the acquisition of Acuvity, an innovator in AI enterprise security and governance. This strategic move positions Proofpoint as the first cybersecurity platform to deliver comprehensive protection at the intersection of humans, data, and AI agents in the emerging agentic workspace.

As generative AI transforms enterprise workflows—through copilots, autonomous agents, and model-connected applications—organizations face new risk categories. These include unauthorized shadow AI usage, sensitive data leakage to external models, intellectual property exposure, compliance violations, and AI-specific threats such as prompt injection and model manipulation.

Acuvity’s AI-native security capabilities enable enterprises to adopt generative AI confidently while maintaining robust governance, compliance, and trust. Its platform provides runtime inspection and enforcement across diverse AI touchpoints, from endpoints and web browsers to emerging infrastructure like Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and locally deployed tools such as OpenClaw and Ollama.

“AI agents are becoming active participants in the enterprise, accessing data, executing tasks and making decisions alongside people. Securing this new model of work requires understanding human intent, agentic behavior and risk in real time,” said Ryan Kalember, Chief Strategy Officer, Proofpoint. “Together, Proofpoint and Acuvity enable organizations to confidently adopt AI tools and agents with the governance, visibility and control required to manage risk. By securing humans, defending data and governing AI through a unified platform, Proofpoint is uniquely positioned to protect the agentic workspace end to end—something no other cybersecurity company delivers today.”

Unified Protection Across People, Data, and AI

The acquisition integrates Acuvity’s purpose-built AI detection models and control points into Proofpoint’s existing human- and agent-centric platform. This creates the industry’s first unified solution that spans:

  • Collaboration Security to protect people from human-centric threats
  • Data Security and Governance to safeguard sensitive information and control access for both people and AI
  • AI Security to govern enterprise AI usage, protect custom models and applications, and enforce policies in real time

Acuvity’s technology delivers contextual understanding and enforcement across the full spectrum of AI adoption, including interactions with external services and internal deployments, while supporting secure innovation at scale.

“AI is fundamentally reshaping how work gets done and enterprises are overwhelmed by the pace of AI adoption and the complexity of securing it,” said Satyam Sinha, co-founder and CEO, Acuvity. “In an AI-accelerated world, intelligence is no longer confined to applications or infrastructure; it lives in interactions, decisions and autonomous agents acting on our behalf. Securing that future requires a new approach — one that governs how AI thinks, acts and learns in real time.”

The combined capabilities are expected to enhance Proofpoint’s portfolio by securing how people and AI agents communicate, interact with data, and execute workflows—empowering organizations to embrace AI with confidence.
