Upwind, a leader in runtime-first cloud security, has launched Choppy AI, integrating transparent, natural-language-driven intelligence across its Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP). Designed to combat the complexity of modern cloud environments, Choppy AI allows security teams to explore, investigate, and create rules using plain language while maintaining full visibility and control over the underlying logic.

Quick Intel

  • Upwind launches Choppy AI, embedding natural-language intelligence into its runtime-first CNAPP.

  • It translates plain-language intent into transparent, editable queries and security rules.

  • The AI enables intuitive inventory exploration, vulnerability investigation, and policy creation.

  • All AI-generated logic is fully visible and enforceable to avoid "black box" outcomes.

  • It is designed to augment existing workflows with speed while ensuring trust and control.

  • The feature is generally available to all Upwind customers, building on its Inside-Out AI Security.

Introducing Trust and Transparency to AI Security

Choppy AI is Upwind's answer to the opaque "black box" nature of many AI security tools. Amiram Shachar, Co-Founder and CEO of Upwind, emphasized this different approach: “Choppy AI is designed to make cloud security exploration and investigation faster and more intuitive while making the logic behind it clear and auditable. By translating natural-language intent into structured, editable queries and rules, we’re giving teams the speed of AI with the transparency and control they need to trust the outcome.” This ensures security teams retain ownership and understanding of every automated decision.

Augmenting Core Security Workflows with Natural Language

The new capabilities are woven into three critical areas of the platform. Teams can explore cloud inventories using free-text search, which Choppy AI converts into precise Query Builder expressions. For policy creation, describing a security concern in plain language generates a fully editable rule to detect misconfigurations. Within the Vulnerability module, an interactive AI Mode allows for conversational investigation, with responses grounded in real asset relationships and runtime exposure data to improve prioritization.

Designed for Observability and Continuous Refinement

A key differentiator for Choppy AI is its built-in monitoring, which tracks usage patterns, prompts, and AI behavior. This observability allows Upwind to continuously refine the AI's performance and ensure its outputs remain predictable and aligned with security team expectations. The launch reinforces Upwind's strategy of delivering deeply integrated, AI-native security that is fully contextualized by runtime data.

By prioritizing transparency and editability, Choppy AI aims to accelerate cloud security operations without displacing human expertise, positioning AI as a collaborative tool that enhances precision and control in complex environments.

About Upwind

Upwind is the next-generation cloud security platform built to lead the Runtime revolution. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Upwind brings together a unified vision for cloud and application-layer protection, empowering organizations to run faster, detect threats earlier, and secure their environments with unmatched precision. The company was founded by Amiram Shachar and the founding team behind Spot.io (acquired by NetApp for $450 million) and is backed by leading investors including Greylock, Cyberstarts, Leaders Fund, Craft Ventures, Cerca Partners, and Sheva, a venture fund founded by former NBA player Omri Casspi with investment from current NBA star Stephen Curry through Penny Jar Capital. Upwind has raised $180 million since its founding in 2022 and is trusted by forward-thinking enterprises globally to bring real-time runtime intelligence to modern cloud security.
