EdgeMode, in a joint venture with the Blackberry Alternative Investment Fund (BAIF), has announced a critical operational milestone: securing the power supply required for its full pipeline of large-scale AI data center campuses in Spain. This achievement, addressing the primary constraint for AI infrastructure, materially advances the development of what is positioned as the largest AI data center initiative in Europe, with a combined capacity of over 1.5 Gigawatts of IT power.
EdgeMode and its joint venture partner BAIF have secured the power supply for their entire 1.5 GW AI data center pipeline in Spain.
The pipeline comprises five campus-style data centers specifically designed for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.
This development is positioned as the largest AI data center pipeline in the European market by capacity.
Beyond power, all project sites have land rights, dark fiber connectivity, and construction permits secured, de-risking execution.
Securing power is described as an inflection point, moving discussions with clients and investors from future capacity to deliverable solutions.
The milestone accelerates commercial engagement for the platform, which aims to meet surging global demand for AI-ready infrastructure.
The announcement directly tackles the most significant bottleneck for new AI data center development: access to sufficient, reliable electrical power. High-density AI computing requires exponentially more energy than traditional data centers, making power procurement a foundational challenge. By securing the necessary supply across its entire planned portfolio, the EdgeMode-BAIF joint venture has cleared a major hurdle that delays or cancels many other projects.
“Securing power across the full pipeline is a critical milestone for EdgeMode and a clear inflection point for our platform,” said Charlie Faulkner, CEO of EdgeMode, Inc. “Power availability is the primary constraint facing AI infrastructure today, and this achievement allows us to move client and partner discussions from future capacity to deliverable, scalable solutions.”
The power milestone is the final core component in a series of foundational preparations. The joint venture reports that all five sites in the pipeline already have land rights secured, guaranteed dark fiber connectivity, and pre-approved construction permits. This comprehensive approach of securing all critical inputs—power, land, connectivity, and permits—before construction is designed to significantly de-risk the projects for future investors, operators, and anchor tenants, enabling a faster and more predictable path to operational readiness.
“This achievement reinforces the strategic value of our joint venture,” said José Mora, CEO of BAIF. “By securing the power supply... we are uniquely positioned to accelerate the delivery of infrastructure that meets global demand while de-risking execution.”
The 1.5 GW scale of the pipeline places it at the forefront of Europe's race to build AI compute capacity. As enterprises and cloud providers seek geographically diverse and power-secured locations for training and inference workloads, large-scale, pre-permitted campuses become highly strategic assets. This development positions Spain and the EdgeMode-BAIF venture as a key potential hub for AI compute on the continent, aiming to capture a significant share of the projected demand.
With the core fundamentals now aligned, the venture's focus shifts to accelerating commercial engagements with hyperscalers, large enterprises, and AI service providers looking to secure long-term, scalable capacity.
EdgeMode's successful power procurement for its 1.5 GW Spanish pipeline represents a formidable competitive moat in the high-stakes AI infrastructure arena. By locking in the most scarce resource at scale, the joint venture has transformed its project from a proposal into one of the most tangible and advanced AI data center platforms in Europe. This milestone not only accelerates its own timeline but also sets a new benchmark for the level of preparation required to credibly deliver the next generation of energy-intensive compute infrastructure.
