The emergence of AI agents that can autonomously transact on behalf of users creates a fundamental need for verifiable identity and trust. Addressing this, global identity verification platform Trulioo has joined Google's Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) initiative. Trulioo will contribute its expertise to help build a secure, standardized framework where AI agents can initiate and complete payments, with a focus on integrating its Digital Agent Passport (DAP) and Know Your Agent (KYA) framework to provide a verifiable trust layer within the AP2 ecosystem.
Trulioo has joined Google's Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), an open framework for standardizing AI agent-led payments.
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship where Google uses Trulioo for KYC verification.
Trulioo will demonstrate how its Digital Agent Passport (DAP) can convey trust for agent transactions within AP2.
The DAP, part of Trulioo's Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, aims to authenticate and authorize digital agents before they transact.
The goal is to establish the identity backbone for autonomous, trusted "agentic commerce."
Trulioo's platform verifies individuals, businesses, and now agents across 195 countries.
As AI agents become capable of independent financial actions, ensuring they are authorized, compliant, and acting on behalf of a verified user is paramount. Google's AP2 seeks to create a common technical language for these transactions. Trulioo's role is to provide the critical identity layer, ensuring that every agent operating within the protocol can be authenticated and held accountable, preventing fraud and unauthorized activity.
Trulioo's key contribution is its Digital Agent Passport concept, which would function as a verifiable credential for AI agents. When integrated with AP2, the DAP would serve as a "neutral trust fabric," providing other parties in a transaction (merchants, financial institutions) with assurance that the agent is legitimate, its actions are authorized, and its "owner" (the human or business behind it) is known and verified. This moves identity verification from just the end-user (KYC) to the autonomous software entity acting on their behalf (KYA).
The partnership extends Trulioo's existing work with Google, where it is already used for KYC verification and fraud prevention within Google's payments organization. This existing trust and integration likely facilitated the collaboration on AP2. Vicky Bindra, CEO of Trulioo, stated, “By joining AP2, we’re helping define the identity backbone for autonomous payments, where verified agents transact transparently, responsibly and at machine speed.”
The initiative is part of a broader industry effort to build the foundational infrastructure for what Trulioo terms "agentic commerce"—a future where AI agents routinely participate in economic activity. Establishing standards for identity and trust at this early stage is critical for scalability, security, and regulatory acceptance. Trulioo's participation brings a specialized focus on the global verification and compliance aspects of this new paradigm.
For the financial and technology ecosystems, this collaboration signals progress toward a more structured and secure environment for AI-driven transactions. It addresses a core impediment to the adoption of agentic commerce by proposing a standardized method to answer the essential question: "Who (or what) is this agent, and who does it represent?"
