Snowflake has launched Cortex Code, a new AI-powered coding agent designed to deeply understand an organization's enterprise data context within the Snowflake platform. The agent aims to drastically increase productivity by allowing data teams to perform complex data engineering, analytics, and machine learning tasks using simple natural language commands, all while maintaining enterprise security and governance.

Cortex Code is available via CLI for local dev environments and soon within Snowsight.
It is used by customers like Braze, dentsu, LendingTree, United Rentals, and WHOOP.
Snowflake also announced integrations with v0 by Vercel and Brave Search for AI development.
Cortex Code differentiates itself from generic coding assistants by being built specifically for the Snowflake ecosystem. It understands the platform's data objects, compute semantics, governance policies (like those in Snowflake Horizon), and operational constraints. This allows it to generate code and perform actions that are not only syntactically correct but also contextually appropriate and compliant with an organization's data rules, aiming to reduce errors and rework.
The agent is designed to streamline the entire development process, from initial design to production optimization. Users can describe tasks in natural language—such as building a data pipeline, creating an analytics model, or optimizing a Cortex Agent—and Cortex Code will generate the necessary SQL, Python, or configuration code. This empowers a broader range of users, from data experts to domain specialists, to contribute to data and AI projects.
Alongside Cortex Code, Snowflake announced several enhancements to support AI development. These include an integration with v0 by Vercel for "vibe coding" AI data apps, agentic web search via Brave Search to provide real-time external context to AI agents, and improvements to Snowflake Workspaces for secure, collaborative development. These tools collectively aim to provide a unified, production-ready environment for building and deploying AI workflows.
The introduction of Cortex Code represents Snowflake's strategic move to embed AI not just as a workload on its platform, but as an intelligent layer within the development process itself. By creating an agent that speaks the language of both the business user and the underlying data platform, Snowflake is attempting to collapse the traditional layers between data, code, and business intent.
